not a happy camper.

remember a couple years ago when we went camping? calvin was a champ and did so well that i think travis and i got spoiled thinking camping just might be our thing. calvin loved going on small hikes, sitting by the fire, and when we told him it was time for bed he crawled into the tent, snuggled up in a sleeping bag, and slept the entire night long. meanwhile, we felt bad for our friends whose 1 year old cried most of the night and wondered whether or not they would make it through the night. fast forward 2 years and BAM! look who's not so happy about this whole camping thing.
a couple weekends ago we went camping with my two sisters, keri and alisa, and their families. it turned out to be yet another rainy, slightly cold weekend and miles also ended up getting sick the 2 nights before we went. but we were determined to go and make it fun. after rocking miles to sleep from 7-10 PM, patting his back with him sleeping next to me in my sleeping bag from 11-2:30 AM, driving him and myself back to my sister's house at 2:30 AM and getting lost on my way, and then driving back to the campsite to make and eat breakfast in the pouring rain, i'm not sure how convinced any of us were as to how much fun we were actually having! but we all put smiles on our faces and put it in the "good, funny memory" category.

the only thing that really kept him happy through it all was his handfuls of cheetos.

all the cousins. i think they all had a good time...although once keri's kids found out that i had gone to their house to sleep every single one of them asked me why i didn't take them with me! the good news is that calvin still really likes camping, fishing, and sleeping in tents.

this kid on the other hand camped like a pro! how much do you love baby owen?

i'm just glad these guys had a good first-time camping experience with a baby. just wait 2 years, guys, haha!

don't worry, there will be more camping in our future. just not with sick kiddos and rainy breakfasts.

ha ha....my post on camping VS. your post on camping are two totally different perspectives. no offense, but we had a great time!:) you're right, standing in the pouring rain, watching our chairs get soaked while breakfast is being made wasn't that fun, but other than that we had a great time! and we LOVE baby owen a lot:) and ps: don't put a curse on our next baby, i think he/she will be a great camper too!

Haley has been officially banned from camping until she's older for crying the ENTIRE night last year. I totally feel you.

Oh no! I hope more camping with the tutts is in your future. I had some serious flashbacks to a screaming kid all night. Thanks. And where's all the pics of you and trav!? You know I'm disappointed with that.

Don't give up on camping yet! The first time we took Susie, she rolled around the tent all night long keeping us and herself up. The first night was by far her worse. Each night that followed only got easier. However, reading your post definitely makes me not want to go camping anytime soon with our newest addition.

I need to get my post up about camping....probably in between your post and Alisa's post....despite the rain, we had fun!!! We will have to do it again!!! (but, i guess dragging a sick Miles isn't totally fair to him!)....glad you came, but i did feel bad for him every time he coughed!!! you got some cute pics!!!

Oh Liz! that sounds awful. I am glad that Jackson was a good camper, we haven't attempted to take Bennett yet, but oh I have my fingers crossed that he is a good one.
