survival of the mommy

i just got back yesterday after spending about a week with my brother, brian, and his family in dallas, texas. they had asked about a month ago if i would consider going down to watch their 5 kids for them while they went to a business school reunion. of course i debated wondering how it would even be possible! 6 kids (including calvin) under the age of 10...definitely not what i'm used to or know how to handle! well, to make a long story short, we went and we survived enough to be able to even blog about. i think everyone i told what i was doing thought i was crazy but i was so glad to be able to help out brian and rachelle. i was also glad to be able to spend a couple extra days with them and in their home. let's just say that i learned a lot on being a parent and that i am done having kids! (ha, not really but don't think the thought didn't cross my mind!)

as you can tell, i didn't take many pictures because i was SO busy. but here are the couple i actually do have. oh, and a huge shout-out to you mama's out there who have more than one child. you deserve all of the credit in the world. it really is the toughest job out there with limited recognition. and i hope you all enjoy a relaxing, dote-ful (is that a word) mother's day! i already told her this, but my mom was and still is an amazing woman. i couldn't stop thinking about her the entire weekend because when her oldest was 10 she had 8 kids, her babies being newborn twins (me!). i just kept asking myself what she would do and it usually worked! thanks mom!

will, calvin and emma spending some spare time coloring (while i was doing the dishes, probably)

calvin (above) and zach (below) are only 12 days apart. calvin weighed almost 7 lbs at birth while zach weighed around 11 lbs (can't remember exactly) they have stayed around the same ratio. we keep saying that calvin will be the quarterback and zach can be his linebacker! these two had a lot of fun playing together and can keep up really well. calvin needs a few more boys to play with here at home!

oh, and just to make this post any longer...i am loving travis' new schedule. he took his last exam on monday giving him much more freedom at home. this morning he woke up with calvin, stayed home with us until 9:30, went to the park with me and calvin, then we met up with him and his cousins for some dinner in the north end. i hope i'm not getting spoiled, but i really like this fourth year business!

I am super impressed! Here's me giving you high fives, a thumbs up, and a little slap on the rear! :) haha. It sounds like you not only survived, but passed the test of 6 kids with flying colors. Way to go Liz! Such cute pictures.

You did it!! Good job Liz! Luckily, people don't have kids 6 at a time, so you can get used to them one by one (or two by two if twins run in your family!!). I used to do a lot of kid-watching when I just had Lydia, and once I did a family of 9! I felt so accomplished afterwards!

Liz, just so you know a quarterback is on offense and a linebacker is on defense, so Zach is going to try and STOP Calvin, not help him, if they keep those positions....just wanted to let you know, in case your baseball husband hasn't already informed you. Zach could be Calvin's Guard, Tackle, or Center, but probably not linebacker, if you wanted that sort of relationship.

Whew! My sister has SEVEN kids under the age of 11 (soon to be 12) and tried to convince me to come watch her brood in Washington last fall. It's a TON of work and definitely a job meant for a select few. Way to go on surviving!

Wow, 6 at once...sounds like fun!

While we are only working on number 3, I can say amen to children being easier because they only come one at a time. And the older ones really are very helpful even at 2 or 3 years old!
