five. he's (i'm) officially old.

we got to celebrate calvin's big 5 year old birthday on november 3rd. i still can't believe he's five! that makes me old, him big, and kindergarten next year! i'm starting to feel like a real mom. calvin has been so excited to turn 5 because 5 is his favorite number! calvin got to celebrate at school on wednesday then go to a special dinner with nana and papa that night, had these guys join us for happy meals and playing on his real birthday on thursday, and then chose to go to chuck-e-cheese (or chuck-in-cheese according to my boys) on friday with the 4 of us, nana and papa, great grandma and grandpa C, and his best buddy cameron. the boys were so giddy driving to chuck-e-cheese and couldn't wait to play and eat gross pizza! he also got a lot of phone calls and presents from many others. what a lucky boy with so many people that love him so much!

calvin waiting to open a few presents on his birthday night. he's kind of in a weird smiling phase.

see? wearing his birthday crown from school.

enjoying the chuck-e-cheese goodness. 'cause it's the real cool place to be a kid, aparrently.

the 3 c's! cameron, chuck (or chuck-e?), and calvin

yes. we forced miles into the photo. see how happy he was with that?

and back at home for cake and ice cream.
i'm so blessed, lucky, happy, and all other feelings only moms can feel to have calvin in our family. he does such a great job at being big brother. he makes really good choices (for the most part) and is a great example to miles. when i send him to school i never worry about him misbehaving or getting in trouble. he is great to teach miles new things and loves to play with his brother and his friends. he still loves dinosaurs and anything with a hook on it, i.e. tow trucks or cranes. he loves sports just like his parents and has really started to enjoy watching football with us on saturdays. he especially likes to keep track of the score and know who's winning and then announce every time there's a touchdown. his biggest sports anxiety is deciding whether or not the likes the cougars or the beavers better. it definitely helped that byu beat oregon state this year. he's recently gotten into "crafting". he loves to cut paper and tape things together and color and paint...you get the idea. i love seeing his new creations and what he comes up with. he loves learning new things and constantly asks me, "mom, when can i learn how to do....?" he can stay focused very well, especially while watching tv. this is a good thing and a bad thing. some of his favorite shows to watch, though, are those on discovery channel or the hunting/fishing shows. one day we were driving down the freeway and we drove past a car with a ladder on top of it. he said, "mom, do you know that that ladder is called a little giant?" he then proceeded to tell me everything there is to know about a little giant ladder. apparently he watched an infomerical one morning with travis and remembered everything he heard! speaking of his memory, not a day goes by that calvin doesn't say something to the effect of "mom, remember yesterday how you said we could do this today? you promised!" oh boy.

i really could go on and on but we sure are lucky to have calvin in our home. he has a special and good heart and i love him so much! happy birthday buddy!
